SSE Enterprise Telecoms has launched a service that bypasses the open Internet to provide high-speed connectivity between businesses and their cloud service provider (CSP), such as AWS or Azure.

Cloud Connect is a private, dedicated Ethernet connection to a CSP, delivered over SSE Enterprise Telecom’s 13,700km private network. By skipping the public internet, SSE says that the service also bypasses various security and performance issues.

Cloud computing is growing quickly (IDC recently reported that it is growing four and a half times faster than IT spend), and investment is high; thus, avoiding performance issues is important. Cloud Connect supports various bandwidths and can be used to access multiple CSPs.

“We see a sizeable [number] of UK businesses looking to migrate legacy services to a number of different cloud or Infrastructure-as-a-Service environments,” said head of product development Jeff Smith. “We’re launching Cloud Connect in direct response to our customers’ need for reliable, high-capacity access to public cloud services. As business-critical applications become more data-heavy, businesses require more reliable, efficient and secure connections. Our Cloud Connect service enables these businesses to connect directly with the award-winning cloud service providers of their choice.”

Smith added, “Using our solution is the missing link that promises businesses the secure connection to the public cloud services they will increasingly rely on for mission-critical applications.”

SSE Enterprise Telecoms will make Cloud Connect available through its Livequote engine, which can be used to generate quotes in real time.
